Now that my old photoblog is officially defunct, I will take the photos from there, play with them a little in the GIMP, and repost them here from time to time. It will be practicing my scales. After all, what is a photograph if not visual music? Is that not so? And, like music, I need to practice if I want to get good.

Other than day to day living and providing for my daughter, there are two things that I am willing to devote my time and energy to. Our environment, particularly wilderness, and photography. That's what I will continue to blog about. You'll notice that this site is now called buzztail 2. It's the photo page for, and the sister site to, my enviro blog buzztail, and these two will be enough, more than enough, to keep me busy for a long time to come.

I've spent much time over the last year or so working on other photo sites where I could try to sell a few prints, but I killed them all the other day. I was quickly reaching a point where I was getting too scattered to be able to keep track of everything. I decided enough was enough and am bringing it all back to something I can manage. That's these two blogs, and that's plenty.

I will have a gallery page here where I will show the photos that I do sell as prints. Feel free to contact me for information.

And that's about all for now...

Well, it's been announced. After a 74-year run, Kodak's fabled color transparency film, Kodachrome, is officially being retired. Hardly a surprise, but still... It's like losing an old friend who has been ill for years. You know the end is near, but you're never really prepared for it.

Seriously though I'm not really shedding any tears for Kodachrome. It was a beautiful film, it set the standard for color for years, and I used to shoot nothing but Kodachrome for color work. But times change. Photo technology changes. Kodachrome was replaced by other films first, and then digital nailed the coffin shut. The last stocks of it are expected to be sold this fall, and the only lab in the world that processes it, located in Kansas City, will process it through 2010 and then call it quits. Oh yeah, did I mention that it was a beautiful film? Like Paul Simon said:

"Give us those nice bright colors..."
